In a way, he’s discovered the band in the best way as I think people will enjoy this, but I think they’ll enjoy moving backwards through the discography even more.

He confessed he’d never heard the band before and likened them to “the one that got away” as he’ll never get to enjoy their future fruits. I read a review of the album in which the author called it one of the albums of the year. That said, it’s certainly not an album of rehashes. There was only one track that made me think “here we go”, then I quickly realised its intro sounded like a slower version of “Not Afraid” from the previous record, which is one of my favourite songs of theirs. I think maybe it lacks the stand-out songs that have made me sit up and pay attention in the past – the ones that got me into the band in the first place. It’s well produced, songs are entertaining, vocals are good, all the usual riffs and hooks are there and yet it just lacks that je ne sais quoi that upgrades it from good to great. What I find odd is that it’s actually a pretty good album. I like it, but I don’t love it and I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why. If I’d never heard Attack! Attack! before, I’d probably have really enjoyed Long Road to Nowhere, but as a third record it doesn’t quite cut it for me. As a fan since the start I’m a little disappointed. Having released an excellent self titled début in 2008, then enjoyable follow up The Latest Fashion in 2010, I think the band may have eschewed the usual difficult second album and bumped the challenge on to the third. I suspect it may be titled as a reflection of their career. Long Road to Nowhere is their third and final album having announced their intention to call it a day after the album tour this April/May. The band have struggled to make a significant mark on the public despite being one of the better of the easy to digest pop-rock artists of the last five years.

Often confused with American hardcore band Attack Attack! (note the singular exclamation mark), their name is often miswritten leading to confusion and difficulty to locate on the net, et al. Attack! Attack! have had a slightly turbulent time of it over the years I think.
